Migrating Licenses for dox42 on-prem Servers

Prev Next

This guide explains how to migrate an existing dox42 Server license to a new on-prem environment. By using a temporary migration license, you can validate the new system before transferring your production license and decommissioning the old environment.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that:

  • The new Windows Server and dox42 Server are installed.

  • You have administrative access to the new server.

  • A backup of the current environment is available.

Step 1: Getting the one Month free Migration License

To test the new environment before transferring your production license, request a temporary migration license.

  1. Contact the dox42 Support Team at support@dox42.com and request:

    • A temporary dox42 Server migration license.

    • Any required dox42 additional module licenses.

  2. Apply the migration license on the new server:

  3. Verify that:

    • The dox42 Server starts successfully.

    • Document generation works as expected.

    • All required modules are available and functioning correctly.

    Note

Your existing production environment remains fully operational during this phase.

Step 2: Request License Reactivation

After successfully validating the new environment, request the transfer of your production license.

  1. Contact the dox42 Support Team at support@dox42.com and request the License Reactivation Form.

  2. Complete the form and submit it as a PDF to the dox42 Support Team.

  3. Once the form has been processed, your existing license will be reset.

    Important

Resetting the license permanently deactivates it on the old server.

Ensure that the new environment has been fully tested and approved before submitting the License Reactivation Form.

Step 3: Activating the unlimited License

After the license has been reset:

  1. Navigate to appSettings → License Management.

  2. Replace the temporary migration license with the reactivated production license.

  3. Verify that document generation and all required modules are working correctly.

Result

The new dox42 on-premises environment is now fully licensed and operational using your production license.

The previous environment is no longer licensed and cannot be used unless a new license is activated. Once the migration has been completed successfully, the old environment can be decommissioned.
