Components of a report

A report consists of the following components:

  • Word document with a dox42 Add-In: This Word document shows the basic structure of the report, it contains all design components which are later represented in the finished report (see Working with Word templates).

  • Connection Excel file: The connection file stores all the information which are needed to create a connection to the D365 FSCM (see Creating the connection Excel file).

  • Data map: The data map is necessary to get access to all required information like the connection Excel file or the data sources (see Creating a data map.

Report types

There are two report types:

It is possible to mix data from D365 FSCM entity reports (OData) and SSRS data sources and use them in one template. On the other hand, for some reports it is not required to create the SSRS data source, you can just use a data entity to create a report without SSRS data provider. For Performance relevant reports we recommend using mainly the data provider as the combination with the entities will slow down the report (for more information see Performance tuning).
